Project Objective 1: Crowdfunding A Recording

Towards the end of the Tales Of A Riverbank '25 recording project, a vision finally crystalised of making a more extensive recording of maybe up to a whole CD's worth of music (seventy-two minutes), or perhaps a vinyl album or even a double album. This I realised would require a lot more funding than I could finance personally, just for the recording. The possibility of involving a commercial record label has occurred to me ,and will be pursued, but I will not as they say be holding my breath! So, I have decided to investigate crowd-funding, and preparing this web-site is a key first step in that initiative. One way to help avoid a drastically protracted timescales would be to hire professional musicians, rather than relying on volunteers, which will be factored into my budgeting.

​I don't yet have a detailed plan for the crowd-funding idea which clearly the biggest and most challenging objective of this overall project, but let's say my "plan for a plan" is broadly as itemised in the next section. In the meantime ...

Crowdfunding:

"A Plan For A Plan"

  • Decide on recording objectives (how many songs, what media to release etc)

  • Investigate sources and costs of session musicians

  • Decide on recording techniques (eg how many musicians to record at once) and how much studio time will be required

  • Investigate possibilities and costs of pressing vinyl, burning CDs, printing sleeves etc etc

  • Work out what to offer investors, for example limited edition recordings, merchandise or whatever

  • Put together a detailed costing of the recording/manufacturing processes

  • Build a suitable campaign on one of the major crowdfunding platforms

  • ...all of the above and doubtless, much, much more!!
